About: Ms. Rana Humbatova holds the position of Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) under the Ministry of Energy. Senior energy and climate expert with over 20 years of experience actively involved in the development of a regulatory framework to ensure the sustainable use of RES, including hydrogen and its derivatives. Areas of expertise: national climate and sustainable energy policies, emissions trading mechanisms, MRV for methane emissions from upstream and midstream operations of oil and gas industry. Her educational background includes master degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics with special focus on statistical modelling and big data analytics. In 2024, she was elected Vice-Chairperson of the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy. Since 2013 – member of the UNFCCC roster of experts, serving as an energy sector review expert for the biennial transparency reports submitted by countries under the Paris Agreement to the UNFCCC.
