Perched on a hill above the city, Fortress Kale offers panoram- ic views of Skopje and the sur- rounding region. Originally built in the 6th century during the reign of the Byzantine Empire, it has undergone many reconstructions throughout history, especially during the Ottoman period. The fortress is named “Kale,” which means “castle” in Turkish. The site provides an excellent glimpse into Skopje’s Byzantine and Ottoman past. Visitors can explore its walls and towers, while the view from the top offers a stunning perspective of the city, the Vardar River, and the distant mountains. It is a great spot for photography and history enthusiasts alike.
